Trip to Brigham

I made it a rule that as soon as my former students graduated I could become "friends" with them on facebook. Well, after I stopped teaching I became a little lax with that rule and now I'm friends with a few of my old sophomores that are now seniors! One in particular was one of my favorites (yes I had favorites)... even as a sophomore she had a maturity and confidence that not many posses. In an emotional health unit, we learned about goal setting. She told me that one of her goals was to be in a school play before she graduated. Through facebook she told me she was finally doing it! She is a blessed girl and the play happened to be Phantom of the Opera! She told me the dates of the play and Keegan and I got a sitter and headed to Brigham.

We got there JUST as it was starting and our seats were in the upper deck in the VERY last row! I had left my glasses in the car so I couldn't see any faces- but I did recognize a few other former students because of their voices and the handy program. :-) They were incredible! And not just for high schoolers! Opera isn't easy but all of the leads made it seem easy. The only downer was that Box Elders sound system is terrible! (They blame it on the cell phones and that if not turned off they cause interference... bah! Even if that IS the case... get it fixed already! It's been a problem for YEARS and nothing has been done... and then to undertake a production like Phantom! Come on!) So that was hard... especially for Keegan who has quite the ear and appreciation for music and sound. Sometimes it was all he could do to tolerate it.

Even with that, I still had the songs stuck in my head and watched a bunch of YouTube videos of them with the babies on my lap the next day. They enjoyed the music too. Miriam was no surprise there, but even little Rowan sat still through whole songs at a time.

We didn't want to stay too long after but I had to talk to Lyssa and snap a quick picture with her before we headed home. (like our coordinating attire??) I was so happy she was able to be in such a great production. Yay Lyssa!
